(Allen Ginsberg greets Srila Prabhupada at the San Francisco airport, 1967)
"Ginsberg was also involved with Krishnaism. He met and became friends with Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder of the Hare Krishna movement in the Western world. Ginsberg donated money, materials, and his name/reputation to help the Swami establish the first temple. Ginsberg toured with the Swami to help him promote his cause.
Ginsberg considered music and chanting to be important ingredients of his live delivery during poetry readings. He would often play a harmonium to accompany his reading, and he was sometimes also joined by a guitarist. When Ginsberg asked for permission to sing a song in honor of Lord Krishna on William F. Buckley, Jr.'s television show Firing Line in September of 1968, Buckley agreed to the performance*, and Ginsberg chanted slowly as he played dolefully on his harmonium."
