Love Animals, Don’t Eat Them

_____________
To satisfy the appetite of man
We butcher innocent animals because we can
And mutter something about having a bigger brain
That puts us up on top of some food chain
We claim we are by nature carnivore
As we hunt our helpless prey at the corner store
Heartlessly a tiny calf we’ll steal
From its mother for a dish that we call veal
Yet we wonder why it is the human race
Has fallen so very far from a state of grace
When we fail to recognize the Earth as mother
And all other living beings as our brother
