(Ringo Starr in Victoria, Canada, October 8, 2015)

Beatle drummer Ringo Starr, age 75, is on tour in North America this month with his All-Starr Band. He recently played in Victoria, Canada, spreading his now familiar message of "peace and love" along with "Hare Krishna."

During his second song ("It Don't Come Easy"), co-written with George Harrison and a big hit for Ringo in 1971, local concert goers report that Ringo enthusiastically shouted, "Hare Krishna!" to his adoring audience. So wherever he goes on tour, Ringo is spreading the holy name of Krishna for the spiritual benefit of his many fans both young and old.

"One who chants the holy name of the Lord is immediately freed from the reactions of unlimited sins, even if he chants indirectly [to indicate something else], jokingly, for musical entertainment, or even neglectfully. This is accepted by all the learned scholars of the scriptures."

(Srimad-Bhagavatam 6.2.14)

In a recent interview, Ringo was asked how he remains so vibrant and youthful at age 75. He replied that it's in part due to his strict vegetarian diet and also from meditating every day. Explaining further, Ringo said: "I don’t need a lot of food, and eat a lot of broccoli, berries, fruit. I’ll eat anything that comes out of the ground, but won’t touch it if it lives on the ground."

Flashing the peace sign, preaching vegetarianism and spreading Hare Krishna wherever he goes makes Ringo a shining light in the firmament of modern day rock stars.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
