After two-and-a-half years, the fifth issue of The Vaisnava Journal was the last. Unfortunately, the financial strain of publishing and mailing the journal around the world became too much in the end. Yet the decision to stop printing was a difficult one. The following remarks were made in the closing letter from the editor:
"My latest efforts to raise financial support for the journal were met with minimal results. So I'm afraid that The Vaisnava Journal will be discontinued at least for the time being. I would like to thank each and every devotee who supported the journal by sending donations and by writing letters and articles. Your contributions made the journal a success in spite of its rocky history. I'm sorry that I couldn't have served you better."
